Interior Design with Suzanne: The Versatile Stokke Tripp Trapp

One of my favorite pieces to use in design for children’s spaces is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. The Tripp Trapp’s design is unique, modern, and clean, and it’s so much more than just a high chair. I’ve used the Tripp Trapp in kitchens and dining rooms, at children’s desks and as an office chair for adults here in our own store.

Unlike most high chairs, the Tripp Trapp is made from wood, not plastic. This makes it much easier to integrate the chair into your home’s design, and the wide variety of color options means that the Tripp Trapp can not only blend with the furniture you already have, but become an accent piece in its own right.

The Tripp Trapp’s versatile design has won a number of awards, including the Norwegian Design Council’s Award for Design Excellence. Families eating lunch at the Museum of Modern Art in New York have probably used a Tripp Trapp before – the MoMA cafeteria has a rainbow of the Stokke chairs for patrons to use as high and booster chairs.

Since we first opened Little Urbanites I’ve believed in the unique, modern design of the Tripp Trapp, and that belief has only gotten stronger in the years I’ve been a Stokke retailer and customer.

Interior Design with Suzanne: Design with Wall Decals

Suzanne is a licensed interior designer and co-owner of Little Urbanites. She attended the Sheffield Interior Design School in New York City, and has more than seventeen years experience designing nurseries and rooms for children.

One of the elements I love about design is imagination. For example, using adhesive wall decals is kind of wallpapering or painting an accent wall, but decals open up all sorts of fun, creative design possibilities.

I used this Dezign with a Z tree decal when I designed a child’s bathroom for the Street of Dreams model homes. The tree was placed in the child’s bathroom and was the focus wall as you entered the room.

Then I took it to the next level by adding nesting material from a craft store. I took the birds from this fantastic bamboo bird mobile. These unique touches give the decal a custom look and set the mood for the bathroom.

Tips to keep in mind when working with decals:

No matter how much your little one loves Mickey Mouse or Thomas the Tank Engine, I’d recommend avoiding licensed character or cartoon decals. Nature inspired decals bring the outdoors into your home and make a great alternative.

Make sure the color of the decal will show over the wall paint color.

Take the decal and roll it flat on a hard surface and place books on it to flatten it out the day before you apply it to the wall. This will help with any curling on large decals.

Use your imagination on how you can take the decal to the next level by adding a custom element.

And as always, show us your work on the Little Urbanites Facebook page. I love seeing new ideas! Enjoy your inspiration for your nursery, and don’t forget to come back to the LU blog every other Thursday to learn more from Suzanne’s new interior design posts!
